Brooklyn Teams: Change of Venue and an Opportunity

To all New York City FIRST Lego League Teams:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the NYC FLL Planning Committee had to change the venue and date of the Brooklyn qualifying tournament. This tournament will now be held at the Brooklyn campus of Polytechnic Institute of NYU (formerly Polytechnic University) on Saturday, January 10. Details regarding the event schedule and registration will be provided soon.

We are also delighted to announce that this year we have almost doubled the number of FLL teams that have registered in Brooklyn. As of close of registration, there are 63 teams registered in Brooklyn (highest registration than any other borough this year). As a result of the large registration, we will need to ask some teams to attend a qualifier in another borough. We understand that this may result in scheduling issues with some you and we will work to make sure that we address any of your concerns if your team is impacted.

In order to be as fair as possible, we will first ask those Brooklyn teams that would like to attend an event in a different borough, to please let us know as soon as possible. Depending on the number of teams that voluntarily elect to go to a different borough, we will determine how many additional teams will be asked to go to a different event. These slots will then be filled with teams chosen in the order in which they registered with FLL, starting with the latest registration and going backwards toward the first.

If you are a Brooklyn team and would like to volunteer to attend an event in a different borough, please contact the NYC FLL Registration Coordinator, Norm Scott, at NorScot@aol.com. For reference, here are the dates of the other qualifying tournaments:

• Staten Island: December 13, 2008
• Bronx: December 20, 2008
• Queens: Dec 20, 2008
• Brooklyn: January 10, 2009
• Manhattan: January 11, 2009 (this qualifier is currently filled to capacity and cannot accommodate teams from Brooklyn)

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at msharf@optonline.net

Sincerely,
Mark Sharfshteyn, Chairperson
NYC FLL Planning Committee
